Havana, as well as other Cuban cities, is much safer than any comparable US city and much safer than any other Latin American city.
However, due primarily to the present economic situation and the increase of the tourist industry, petty crime against Cubans and tourists is on the rise.
Always follow this principle: Do not do anything you wouldn’t do at home. Stay off unlit streets at night. Always try to pair off with someone from your group.
Ask your group leaders and guide about directions.
Do not carry lots of money, only the amount you are anticipating to spend. Leave your passport, plane ticket, visa, and credit cards at the hotel; watch your purse, bags, and camera.
Please remember to always use caution and stay alert.
