Tipping

Tipping is practiced very much like in the US. Cubans themselves are known to be generous tippers, provided they get good service.

General tipping practice is 10-20 per cent of the bill provided good service is received. Often times, there will be instances that restaurant musicians will come to the table for a contribution.

In these cases, CUC $1 will suffice. Carry change in case you need to go to public restrooms as tipping is expected here. There might be other personal services that you want to receive individually, so make sure you tip upon your satisfaction. Many Cubans who work in the tourist industry depend on tips for their income.

Don’t forget tip money for guides and drivers (See below). Be sure to tip baggage handlers, chambermaids, and whoever else assists you, as well.
