The Kitchen Journey

The proposed Kitchen trip is a people-to-people exchange where participants would be able to experience Cuba through the eyes of five families as they embark in the experience of cooking traditional Cuban recipes. As trip participants would learn to cook a typical Cuban dish, they would engage in meaningful interaction with these families and also learn about the intricacies of Cuban culture, a family’s daily life, their hardships, challenges, struggles, and dreams.

This trip would survey the vibrant and rich cultural life of Cuba. Through meaningful interactions with the people trip participants would learn about who is constructing this multi-semantic facet of today’s Cuba. At the same time, it provides the unique opportunity to master those Cuban Spanish language skills that will undoubtedly facilitate your communication with the locals and understanding of Cuba.

The bicycle, a common means of transportation in Cuba for most everyone, would be the point of departure allowing participants to scrutinize Cuba from a different angle and would allow them the ability to have daily meaningful interactions with Cubans along the route.
